It is annoying (and perhaps worrying) to have to enter your credit
card details every time you purchase at a different web site.
PayPal is a good solution. You open a PayPal account once only,
and enter your credit card details there.
You can then use your PayPal account to buy from over 25,000 web
sites (including Newsknife) without entering your credit card details
at each site.

Limited first time use. While you are opening your PayPal
account, a limit of $US250 can be sent from your credit card, until
you verify your PayPal membership later.
You verify your details later.
When you join, PayPal sends a message to the email address you gave.
You reply by email thus confirming the address is yours.
PayPal sends a transaction to the credit card account you gave.
This appears on your next card statement, including a Membership
Confirmation number. You visit the PayPal web site and enter this
number, confirming that the card is yours.
This too is reassuring
PayPal is owned by eBay,
arguably one of the biggest and most successful web sites in the
world.
