TIME magazine's November 6 cover said "Why this election is
all about George W. Bush". That set us thinking. Do the news
headlines accurately reflect what the public thinks are today's
big political issues.
So we searched 123,625 headlines we'd seen at Google News since
July 1 to find out which topics were mentioned the most. And here
are our top 9 topics, starting with President Bush at 7131 mentions.
1 Bush 7131
2 Iraq 5197
3 North Korea 3039
4 Foley 1687
5 Democrat 1480
6 Gay \ same-sex marriage 1281
7 Republican 947
8 stem cell 476
9 9/11 312
We're not suggesting this word count is very scientific but maybe
it's accurate. Do you think these are the hot political question
marks of the moment, in this order?
It's sobering that you could probably describe them as the age-old
issues: sex, politics and religion.
We found President Bush mentioned most often at the following sites,
starting with 163 times at ABC News. (See the full list of 721 sites
now in the Newsknife Members'
Area. For a modest $US10 you can join at the left of this
page.)
