Newsknife rates news sites on relevance (how),
based on our analysis of the main US-oriented Google
News site.
The following are from our sample of 109,702 listings by 3942 sites
for 689 news items during 2008

In 2006 Newsknife rated
U.S. newspaper web sites we found on the home page of Google
News.
Things have changed since 2006, when we found 100 newspaper sites.
Our new list below, for year-to-date 2008, has 155 sites.
Associated Press, though not strictly a newspaper site has a big
influence on the world of newspapers. We think it qualifies to be
on this list. (Also, year-to-date it is the site that Newsknife
has found most often on the home page of Google News.)
Other changes include an increase in the number of smaller newspapers
online; even student papers like UM
Maneater, MO. The category blurs to include local magazines
like Boston Magazine.
Newspaper groups make multiple appearances, for example Advance
Publications sites.
