based on our analysis of the main Google
News site.

These ratings are based on our sample of 72,040 individual site
listings at Google News by 3442 sites for 354 news items during
year to date 2006.
Featured rating: stable performers throughout Google News changes
If you're trying to maximize your news site's ranking at Google
News there's only so much you can do. External forces apply. There's
the competition of course. And maybe Google has changed their algorithm
in a way that affects your site.
Newsknife's Google Algorithm Watch looks for long term shifts in
news site rankings that might indicate changes at Google News that
you should react to at your site.
We've just done a new Google
Algorithm Watch. See if you can spot any changes that might
be the result of these Google updates:
Bourbon - around May-July 2005,
Jagger - around October-November, and
Bigdaddy - starting January 2006 and maybe still going.
Newsknife rates the following as the best sites because they've
kept getting good traffic from Google News through any Google changes...

Top sources for the 2 Top Stories
Dominating the Google News home page when you first view it are
their two "Top Stories". And dominating these are the
two news sites listed as their first sources. This is the best exposure
a news site could aim for.
The columns in the lists below are ranking, appearances noted by
Newsknife as No.1 source in the first Top Story, and the second
Top Story. The full lists of 23 and 103 sites are in the Newsknife
Members' Area.

Google News usually lists seven news sites per major news item
on their home page and thirty on each sub-page, all "sorted
by relevance". We award each site points per appearance on
a sliding scale (with occasional tweaking) to get the ranked positions.
The second column is the number of appearances we recorded as the
first source for a news item. The full lists of 65 and 242 sites
are in the Newsknife Members' Area.

This table shows the number of appearances per site that Newsknife
found on the home page of Google News as source 1 to 7 for major
news items.
During February we found Forbes 7 times on the home page of Google
News as the first source for a news item, 13 times as the second
source, through to 6 times as the 7th source. The full lists of
242 and 1047 sites are in the Newsknife Members' Area.

to get as many as possible of your listings onto their home page.
Newsknife monitors listings on Google News home page and 10 sub-pages
deep.
