Newsknife rates news sites on relevance (how),
based on our analysis of the main Google
News site.
Iraq may dominate the headlines but there is a constant flow of
news from the ex-communist bloc: President Putin, the overthrow
of Kyrgyzstan's government, Yushchenko and the Ukraine election
for example.
The news sites that best cover this topic may not always be your
favorites so we've produced this special relevance rating.

How we produced this ranking
Newsknife's ranked list of 448 news sites was produced from 4056
individual site listings for 22 news items in 2005 related to President
Putin, Russia & areas that were part of or influenced by the
ex-USSR.
For the detailed list of all 448 sites click at left to join Newsknife’s
Members' Area.
For each major news item Google News usually lists seven news sites
on its home page plus often many sub-pages of around 30 listings
each; all "sorted by relevance".
This ranking is based on the sites we found most often on the Google
News home page and up to 10 pages deep of listings for each news
item.
ABC News tops the list because over the 22 news items about Putin,
Russia & the ex-USSR, Newsknife recorded it appearing 207 times
at Google News; 13 times on the home page through to 9 times on
