Newsknife rates news sites on relevance (how),
based on our analysis of Google
News.
The recent election in Iraq is a major world event. This Newsknife
Special Rating ranks the news sites that we believe have covered
it best to date.
If you want to follow the outcome of the election simply click
to our top-rated sites. Also see our top-ranked Middle Eastern news
sites (further down this page) for on-the-spot views.
Our main list of 68 news sites was produced by Newsknife from 2177
individual site listings for 14 major news items related to the
election in Iraq, at the main Google
News site between January 25 and February 1, 2005.
The sites were listed on the Google News home page as sources.
The New York Times is our No. 1 ranked site. The top 12 of the 68
sites are listed below.
Google News usually lists seven news sites per major news item
on their home page, all "sorted by relevance". We award
each site points per appearance on a sliding scale from first to
seventh position, and we total the points to get the ranking positions.
The layout shows how many times we found our first three sites
on the Google News home page in positions 1-7. For instance, we
found The New York Times listed once as the second most relevant
site for a news story on the election, twice as the third listed
story, once as fourth ranked and once as seventh source.
