Newsknife rates news sites on relevance (how),
based on our analysis of the main US-oriented Google
News site.

These ratings are based on our sample of 270,805 individual site
listings by 3976 sites for 2016 news items during 2007.

Strong newcomers during 2007
Here are the top 12 sites found by Newsknife at Google News for
the first time during 2007. You can see the full list of 1264 newly-found
sites in the Newsknife Members'
Area.
The sites are ranked by volume found at Google News on the home
page and 10 sub-pages deep. The columns of the list are rank, home
page appearances and total appearances.
For example, we sighted eFluxMedia at Google News 458 times, including
22 times on Google News home page.
Sites we found earlier in the year will have an advantage in volume
found. It may not be substantial though. We first sighted our top
two, AP and AFP, in September.

Points of interest...
Given that our newcomers list is from Newsknife's monitoring of
the main US-oriented Google News site, it is remarkable how many
of the newcomers are non-US news sites.
Equally interesting, non-traditional news sites have done well.
HULIQ is all about citizen journalism, eFluxMedia's "editorial
policy resides in the evocation of as many opinions as possible",
and ToTheCenter.com was founded "with one goal in mind, to
have political news written 'right down the middle', with no left
or right".
Proof indeed that Google News continues to be a great place to
go if you want a variety of views on news events.

Top sources for the 2 Top Stories
Dominating the Google News home page when you first view it are
their two "Top Stories". And dominating these are the
two news sites listed as their first sources. This is the best exposure
a news site could aim for.
The columns in the lists below are ranking, appearances noted by
Newsknife as No.1 source in the first Top Story, and the second
Top Story. The full lists of 13 and 206 sites are in the Newsknife
Members' Area.

Google News usually lists seven news sites per major news item
on their home page and thirty on each sub-page, all "sorted
by relevance". We award each site points per appearance on
a sliding scale (with occasional tweaking) to get the ranked positions.
The second column is the number of appearances we recorded as the
first source for a news item. The full lists of 34 and 300 sites
are in the Newsknife Members' Area.

This table shows the number of appearances per site that Newsknife
found on the home page of Google News as source 1 to 7 for major
news items.
Last month we found New York Post 30 times on the home page of
Google News as the first source for a news item, 19 times as the
second source, through to once as the 7th source. The full lists
