Newsknife usually rates news sites for relevance (how)
based on our analysis of the main Google
News site, (which is targeted at US visitors).
This time we've produced two ranked lists of highly relevant news
sites - from Google
News UK and from the US.
The lists are for news about the terror attacks in London, from
news items for this topic appearing on the home pages of these Google
News sites, July 7-25.

Between July 7 - 25 Newsknife found 28 news items at Google News
UK on the topic and 12 at Google News US.
Our UK-sourced list not surprisingly shows many more news items
appearing for the London bombs. For ongoing news on the topic go
first to these sites.
We found Arab News
twice as the top source at Google News US for London bomb news items.
The headlines were "Terrorists hit london..." and "British police
defend shoot-to-kill...".
How we produced this ranking
Google News usually lists seven news sites per major news item
on their home page sorted by relevance".
We awarded each site points per appearance on a sliding scale
from first to seventh position. With some adjustments we totaled
the points to get the ranking positions shown above.
You can see how many times we found the top two sites on the Google
News home page in positions 1-7.
For instance, at Google News UK we found BBC News listed five times
as the top ranked site for a news story on the London bombs, five
times as 2nd ranked, three as 3rd and three times as 5th source.
The news items we sampled
The 40 news items that Newsknife sampled from Google News for this
relevance ranking included...
