Newsknife rates news sites on relevance (how),
based on our analysis of Google
News.
Our count of the front page headlines at Google News puts the Lebanon
situation as the major news item over February-March, just ahead
of news about Terri Schiavo.
We've chosen Lebanon for our current rating as it is a news story
that's still unfolding. Newsknife's list of top sites will help
you get the best information if you want to keep following Lebanon
news.
The events so far start with the assassination of former Prime
Minister Rafik Hariri, the ensuing uprising in Lebanon, the withdrawal
of Syrian troops and recent fears of a return to violence.
Newsknife's ranked list of 127 news sites was produced from 3858
individual site listings for 20 news items about Lebanon at Google
News during February-March.
You can see the articles we monitored further down this page.
The sites were listed on the Google News home page and first sub-page
as sources. The Daily Star, Lebanon is our No. 1 ranked site. The
top 12 of the 127 sites are listed below.
Google News usually lists seven news sites per major news item
on their home page and thirty on each sub-page, all "sorted
by relevance". We award each site points per appearance on
a sliding scale from first to thirty-seventh position, and we total
the points to get the ranking positions.
We found The Daily Star once each in first, second, third and
fourth place, three times as the sixth and twice as the seventh
ranked site on the home page, plus 35 times on the first sub-page.
